Reconstructed Thrift Dress

Several years ago I picked up a beautifully embroidered dress at a thrift store. I loved the embroidery, but didn’t like it as a dress. I recently went to my parents house and saw the dress hanging in the closet and was inspired to finally put it to use.

I love wearing jeans so I wanted to convert the dress into a top that would look great with a pair of skinny jeans. It was a pretty easy project since the dress already fit (so no resize was required).

Sewing Basics – Selvage Info and Wardrobe Repairs

A couple of years ago I started a series of Sewing Basics videos to answer some of the frequently asked sewing questions I get. In the last few days I added two new videos to the series.

The first is a video all about selvages. They are those under-appreciated, non-fraying edges on fabric. Selvages actually contain lots of great info and can be very helpful. Check out the video HERE to learn more.

Easy Jean Repair

I’m a creature of habit…especially when it comes to jeans! I only wear one brand of jeans because I have found the kind and fit I like. I then tend to wear the same 2 or 3 pairs over and over until they are worn to bits.

This means I end up having to patch a lot of holes. Over the years I’ve come up with a method that works the best for me. Here’s how I do it.
