Bird Nest Charm and Decorated Container

I love finding creative ways to package small items that I sell or give as gifts! I think having fun and creative packaging makes it like getting two gifts instead of just one.

I was recently thinking about some bead and wire bird nest charms I had made in the past and was inspired to use the charms along with some pretty floral trim to decorate a small plastic container. It turned out super cute and I wanted to share how easy it was with you all.

Sunburst Zipper Bag

After carrying my Sunburst Tote for a couple of weeks I decided to make another sunburst paper pieced block, but smaller. I hung it on the wall for a couple of days then decided it would make a perfect pieced zipper bag.

I combined techniques from my Pieced Tote Tutorial and the Zipper Bag Tutorials in my Etsy store to make the bag. It turned out EXACTLY how I wanted! I love it so much and now I have a matching Tote and Zip bag.

Do you ever just get in a ‘mood’ to do something?? For a couple of weeks I was in a sewing mood! Not a ‘film what I’m sewing’ mood, but just wanting to sew for fun. I ended up making a ton of cute, new items!

I will be posting a lot of the items in my etsy store…and selling some in a store a friend of mine is opening this summer! (More on that later!) If you want to see the rest of the items I’ve been working on check out the video HERE!

Sewn Mailing Envelope Tutorial – Whitney Sews

About a month and a half ago I shared on facebook that I was sewing a mailing envelope to send a recently sold item in. Several people were interested in seeing how I made them. When I was packaging up the Smurf messenger bag I gave away recently I took the opportunity to film the process.

I got started making mailers because during the past four and a half years while selling on etsy I’ve mailed a lot of items! I’m always trying to keep shipping costs down as low as possible. One way I do that is by sewing my own mailing envelopes. It is especially cost-saving when needing to send rather large (but not heavy) items.

I have used everything from book pages to playbills and magazine pages to packaging paper to make mailers. I love how unique the handmade mailers look when going through the mail!

In my most recent tutorial I show how to create your own envelopes using packaging paper. I found my paper at the Habitat Re-Store for a super low price, but you can get the paper at Wal-Mart, Dollar stores, and many other places.

November is here! If you’re like me once November hits life doesn’t slow back down until after the New Year. Because of the if you’re wanting to DIY the holidays you need to start now!
