Trick-or-Treat Bags and Halloween Decor

Fall is here and Halloween is on its way, so bring on the projects!

I started off the season with a DIY Trick-or-Treat bag made using french seams, but don’t let the french seams fool you…it’s an easy project to make!

Next up is a fun paper piecing block designed to look like a well known Halloween treat…Candy Corn! The block is simple to sketch out (all directions given in video) and to sew together.

Once you create your block (or blocks) you can create a mug rug, mini quilt, feature block tote bag, or a table runner. I created three of the blocks and added sashing and a backing to create a table runner that is perfect for using all through October and November.

DIY Lion Plushie and Big News!

When a friend told me that the nursery theme for their new baby boy was lions I couldn’t help but come up with a DIY! I went to my sewing room and sketched out a little lion and figured out how to turn that design into a plushie.

It turned out super cute so I wanted to share the pattern and tutorial with you all!

Paper Pieced Quilting With Free Patterns

About 10 years ago I started working on my first quilt…it was just a basic string quilt using scraps from my mom’s project. It was a paper pieced quilt because I sewed everything onto pre-cut paper squares then trimmed the excess fabric at the end. I have a basic tutorial on how this is done.

Since then I’ve had an interest in paper pieced quilting. In the past couple of months I’ve really gotten back into it and even created some patterns to use. After posting some pics on facebook and getting a lot of great response I decided to make a tutorial and share two of my patterns with you all.

The two patterns shown here are fairly basic, but paper piecing can be as intense as you are willing to try.

From what I understand paper piecing is an old style of quilting and was a way of creating very detailed quilt blocks long before there were many of the quilting and cutting tools we have now days.

DIY Fabric Bunting – Party or Creative Space Decor

My nephew turned 1-year-old earlier this month! My sister had come across pics of some fabric bunting (or banners) that she liked and asked it I would make something similar for the party. My mom taught me a new technique for making each fabric flag with only one seam up the back. I made a sample to give it a try and it looked great so I used it for this tutorial.

We picked out a lot of fun, bright boy prints for the fabrics, but any kind of fabric and print would work. I’ve already heard from several people who want to make one for their little girl or for a craft space.

Another fun idea is to applique letters on each flag to spell out a name or word. You can use the center fold as a guideline to place the letters before the flag has been sewn together. Check out my applique tutorial if you want step-by-step instructions.
