My mom and I started making our own laundry soap back when I was still in college. I have continued making it myself even after I got married and moved out. It’s a great money saver (and a fun thing to tell people!). I want to share my soap recipe and a few tips with you all.

To make the soap you will need-

-Bar soap

-Washing Soda

-Borax

-A cheese grater or a food processor

*If you are processing your soap you want to dry it out to make it easier on your processor. I simply unwrap the bars and leave them sitting on top of my fridge for a few weeks. If you use white soaps like ivory this isn’t as big of a deal…but I like the look, smell and price of zote soap!

To make the soap you need a 2:1:1 ratio. 2 parts soap, 1 part washing soda, and 1 part borax. Ex 10 oz soap (after grated or blended): 5 oz washing soda: 5 oz borax OR 8 oz soap: 4 oz washing soda: 4 oz borax

Once made you will need to use 1 TBSP for a half load or 2 TBSP for a full load.

*I have not personally figured the cost, but store bought laundry soap averages to about $.21 per load but this soap is about $.05 per load!

Soap made in a food processor-

Hand grated-
